IN CONTINUING crime spree in the State capital, three motorcycle-borne youths on Friday looted a petrol pump manager and his employee of Rs 4.49 lakh at Piplani.

The police, however, said Rs 3.06 lakh was in the bag and the complainant reported the amount as Rs 4.49 lakh in the FIR by mistake.

The youths struck around 11.45 am when manager Naved Ahmed, 55, a resident of Ashoka Garden, and his employee Javed, 22, were going to a nearby bank to deposit the cash.

As the duo set out for the bank, a youth, who was standing near a motorcycle, attacked them with a sword. Another youth quickly snatched the bag. And along with a third youth they escaped on the motorcycle.

Javed was inflicted a deep wound in his palm apart from an injury in the shoulder. The duo was too shocked to see the looters and was only able to remember that they rode a black motorcycle.

The shabbily dressed robbers, one of them wearing a jacket, fled towards Satnami Nagar after the robbery which was over in less than five minutes.

According to the police, Naved Ahmed said in the FIR that the bag contained Rs 4.49 lakh. Additional SP (City) GK Pathak, however, said the amount looted was around Rs 3.06 lakh and that the complainants, who were nervous after the incident, mentioned Rs 4.49 lakh in the FIR. Pathak said some suspects had been rounded up and interrogations were going on.

The injured Javed has been admitted to hospital. The Piplani police have registered a case of robbery and are on the hunt for the robbers.
