One person was killed and dozens were injured in a car blast on Thursday near Bijbehara in south Kashmir's Anantnag district and an encouter with two suspected militants was also reported in north Kashmir's Pattan area, police said.
Eyewitnesses told the Hindustan Times that the car parked out a security installation with a hospital adjacent to it went off in the afternoon.
"I saw around a dozen injured being picked up from the site," said an eyewitness on phone from Bijbehara, 60 km south of Srinagar.
A huge posse of district police have rushed to the spot while people are assembling outside the Bijbehara hospital looking for near and dear ones. The toll of injured might increase as eyewitnesses said the blast was powerful and destroyed the car completely.
In north Kashmir's Baramulla district, security forces have encircled two suspected militants near Pattan.
"The operation is on. We suspect one militant is dead," said a police source.
