A CAR hired from a travel agent for Vice President Bhairon Singh Shekhawat’s cavalcade was stolen at Dewas this morning. Police of three districts—Indore, Dewas and Ujjain— stirred themselves to trace the car and ultimately, the car was caught near Pardeshipura crossing. Four persons, all residents of Bhagirathpura in Indore, have been arrested in this regard. One of the accused is absconding.
The police became active because the car had been given a red light, though it was not being used when it was stolen. The red light was found inside the car.
The Ford Icon car (MP-09-CA-1057) had been hired from Impact Travels, Kanchanbagh, owned by Surendra Yadav. The driver Akahay was going to Ujjain from Indore to be part of the Vice President’s cavalcade. Since there were reports of water-logging along Sanver Road and MR 10, the driver decided to go via Dewas.
When he reached Vijaynagar crossing in a bid to make a quick buck, he took five passengers for Dewas. When the car reached Dewas, the miscreants told the driver to take them to the Dewas Tekri.
The miscreants then threatened him at gunpoint and forced him to get down. They then fled with the car. The driver immediately informed the Dewas police. The police of neighbouring Indore and Ujjain districts were also alerted.
While the search for the car was going on, a relative of the car’s owner saw the car at Pardeshipura and went to inquire from the youths who were in the car whether it was their car. One of the youths stabbed him and they all fled in the car.
The Pardeshipura police were also informed and along with the help of Nagar Suraksha Samiti members, the car was stopped in Pardeshipura area and four persons—Golu alias Mithun (20), son of Babu Singh Dixit, Vijay alias Kala (19), son of Kiran Singh, Golu alias Ashish (19), son of Vijay Singh Dixit and Rahul alias Gutka (20), all residents of Bhagirathpura, have been arrested. Another accomplice Vikas is absconding.
