Two persons robbed a 30-year-old businessman of his Hyundai Santro car from the basement parking lot of Ambience Mall on December 31 evening.
His family was waiting for him at the gate of the mall when the robbery happened. The robbers pushed the owner out of the car at Hero Honda Crossing on Gurgaon Expressway and sped away.
Police said minutes before this incident the same group had made an attempt to rob another car — a Mahindra Logan — from another person.
“The car hit the median and broke down which made the snatchers abandoned it,” said ACP (East) Sumit Kuhar.
The incident occurred at 10.15 pm. Rakesh Chauhan, a businessman, left his wife and child at Gate No. 3 and went down to the basement parking to get the car.
“Chauhan was about to enter his car when two persons asked him to handover the keys. They threatened to shoot him dead,” said ACP Kuhar.
“They forced him to get in the car and took control of it. They then drove out of the mall.”
In both the cases, the mall security did not inform the police.
“We got to know of the incident 40 minutes after it happened. The victim’s father called us up from the landline of his house,” said Kuhar.
“The security guards did not even bother to dial police helpline no. 100.”
Brig (Retd.) Deepak Kapoor, the security chief of Ambience Mall, did not receive the call despite many attempts and was not available for his comments.
