If you are among those who never walk but sashay, don’t just dress but also impress and dream of instant fame and money to go with your perfect bod, the booming Indian fashion scenario is just the place for you to be — the ramp.
Modelling is no longer seen as the sidekick of the fashion industry and models do not face any fear of losing their jobs after an age.
But, unlike it’s glamourous exterior, modelling can involve long hours of gruelling ramp walks, strenuous exercise and flight schedules to play havoc with your system.
What you need
For starters, you must have a well-maintained body and lustrous hair. Boys should have well-toned muscles and a neat six-pack. Get in touch with a career expert to know what exactly is expected from you, better still, catch up with professional models to help you decide on this career.
Get enrolled with a good modelling agency since most ramp-scorchers get their big break from such agencies.
There are three main divisions of modelling — ramp, print ads and television commercials. You do not have to be a pretty face to be a model. Even your perfect peds, mittens or your perfect smile can land you modelling offers and is called ‘modelling in parts’. Several advertisements or products cater to specifics like just a hand, lips, hair or feet.
Unlike most other fields, women earn more than men in modelling. Well-known models can earn anything between Rs 20,000 to Rs 50,000 while a starter could get Rs 5000- Rs 10,000 for a show.
Print ads pay according to the number of photographs used. Magazine spreads and billboard advertisements also pay well from Rs 15,000- Rs 25,000 for each photograph.
