A Delhi-based businessman was robbed of his SUV (sports-utility vehicle) by five armed men on the Delhi-Gurgaon expressway on Sunday morning, the police said.
The incident took place at 5am when Rakesh Kumar, a marble trader, was returning from Makrana in Rajasthan along with his friend, Amit Tyagi, in a Mahindra Scorpio.
According to police, another Mahindra Scorpio emerged from behind and stopped Kumar’s vehicle.
Before they could understand anything, two men got down of the car, took Rakesh and Tyagi hostage at gunpoint and asked them to get down.
The attackers then sped away with Kumar’s car towards Jaipur. Their three companions, who were travelling in another vehicle, pushed the victims and fled. Rakesh called the police helpline and informed them about the incident.
But the carjackers had fled by then. A case has been registered, but no arrest been made as yet. “We have registered a case against five unknown persons. We have started the investigation and will soon arrest the accused,” said a senior police officer.
