A gang of armed carjackers snatched a sports utility vehicle (SUV) from its driver on the national highway-8 on Wednesday night.

According to the police, Ishwar Singh, a resident of Rewari, sent his Mahindra Scorpio along with his driver to Delhi airport to pick up some guests.

While returning, the carjackers who were also travelling in a Scorpio stopped Singh's vehicle near Pachgaon Crossing and asked all the three occupants to get down.

Then, one of the assailants drove away the snatched vehicle while others fled in their own car.

"We have registered the case and conducting investigation," said Babu Lal, station house officer, Bilaspur.

The incident took place a day after a group of armed carjackers snatched a Toyota Fortuner from a driver outside a mall on MG Road.

The police are also investigating the driver's role in the case.

The Millennium City has witnessed a spurt in cases of carjacking in the recent past.

Armed carjackers from neighbouring districts of Haryana as well as cities like Meerut and Delhi are having a free run in Gurgaon. As against 32 incidents reported in Gurgaon in 2011, 27 cases have already been registered in eight months of this year.
