Case registered in Dalit girl?s rape

THE CITY police on Wednesday booked a youth for allegedly raping a teenaged physically challenged girl in the slums near Saket Nagar. The plight of the girl had been highlighted by the Hindustan Times in its June 28 issue.

The accused, Bhim Mandal, has been booked for raping the victim, Dasehra Bai Chavhan almost six months back. The victim is not only paralysed but also mentally challenged. When she became pregnant, the accused tried gave her pills for abortion in an advanced stage of pregnancy and endangered her life. 

The accused has been absconding. Earlier, Bhim’s elder brother Ashok Mandal had repeatedly raped the girl and was arrested for the same. The police have now launched a hunt for Bhim.

Meanwhile, in another incident, a woman was allegedly molested by an acquaintance in Gunga. The complainant, a 45-year-old, resident of Sagoni Gaur had gone outside the village along with a neighbour Munnalal today. However, on way Munnalal molested her.

The woman later informed the police and a case was registered against the accused. In yet another incident, a telephone instrument was stolen from the Police Headquarters. On the report of a subedar, the Jehangirabad police have registered a case of theft.
