Paris may soon have its very own cat café based on the same model as the one that opened in London in March. And the project has managed to raise €40,000 (over Rs 1,80,000) in donations through crowd-funding.

The main attraction in the café will be the felines, who will live their daily lives in the establishment. The interior design will put their comfort first and foremost. Play areas, rest areas, feeding areas and, of course, cat litter, will be at their disposal all day long.

The customers, meanwhile, will be able to enjoy hot and cold drinks while admiring, stroking and playing with the animals. Pastries, salads and tarts will also be available and there will be books and free wi-fi. The individual behind the project is Margaux Gandelon, a 26-year-old cat lover who raised more than 40,000 euros to get Le Café des Chats off the ground.

However, not everyone is thrilled with the project. The plan has provoked the ire of animal rights activists in the country. The cat bar concept originated in Taiwan in the late 1990s. Since then it has expanded its reach and now similar bars can be found in Japan, China, South Korea, Vienna, and more recently London.
