An MLA of the ruling BJP and his son were accused of manhandling staff of a toll plaza at Morena on Wednesday night with the entire act caught on CCTV.
Police registered two cases against MLA Rustam Singh, a former minister, his son Rakesh and four of their aides for allegedly attacking the staff of the toll plaza, located on national highway 3.
Madhya Pradesh is ruled by a BJP government led by Shivraj Singh Chouhan.
Toll plaza staff also handed over two CDs containing CCTV footage to the Civil Lines police station.
Inspector general of police, Chambal range, DC Sagar said police would verify study the video footage and shift through other "credible evidence" before taking action.
Sources said Rustam Singh along with son and supporters were returning to Morena from Chawai village when the incident occurred.
Occupants of one of the vehicles accompanying the MLA refused to pay toll citing Singh's immunity. However, when the toll staff objected and said the immunity was only for the MLA, his supporters allegedly clashed with the staff members.
When a clash ensued between two sides, Singh allegedly slapped staff members of the toll plaza.
