The CBI on Wednesday arrested four more Adarsh housing scam accused, including a serving bureaucrat.
This takes the tally of arrests to seven — all coming in the last two days, after the Bombay high court pulled up the CBI for inaction. The agency has named 14 accused, among them former CM Ashok Chavan, in its FIR.
Pradeep Vyas, a 1989 batch IAS officer posted as secretary (expenditure) in the state finance department, was collector of Mumbai when the scam took place. He is accused of accepting false documents from Adarsh society members and misleading the Lok Sabha.
His wife Seema, also a serving bureaucrat, was allegedly given membership of the society.
Former legislative council member Kanhaiyalal Gidwani and retired major generals AR Kumar and TK Kaul were the others arrested on Wednesday.
The three persons arrested on Tuesday — society chairman Brig (retd) MM Wanchu, former defence estates officer RC Thakur and former deputy secretary in the state urban development department PV Deshmukh — have been remanded in police custody till March 31.
The case comes up for hearing in the high court on Thursday.
