The CBI has given a "clean chit" to four officials of Coal India Limited in connection with irregularities in conducting departmental examinations, CIL chairman PS Bhattacharya claimed on Friday.
"The CBI probe has been completed, and has given a clean chit to them," he told reporters here on the alleged irregularities during departmental examinations for promotion from non-executive to executive ranks in the public sector undertaking conducted a couple of years ago.
On why CIL has not yet responded to the Central Vigilance Commission (CVC) asking it on June 17 last year clearance for further probe that required appointment of enquiry officers from the CIL, he said, "The coal ministry and CIL's feeling is that there is no malafide lapse. (There is) some sort of small irregularity. The CVC has to complete its own processing. So a conclusion has to come".
The CBI had probed against four CIL officials in the aftermath of reports of alleged irregularities in departmental examinations.
