Acting on a Supreme Court order, the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) on Wednesday lodged eight more preliminary enquiries (PE) to probe alleged irregularities based on examination of the taped conversations of lobbyist Niira Radia.

One of PEs deals with alleged irregularities in the allotment of iron ore mines at Ankua, Singhbhum district in Jharkhand to private firm Tata Steel. “The PE is against then Jharkhand chief minister Madhu Koda and unknown officials of the state government,” said the source.

Another pertains to alleged favour granted to Reliance Industries Limited (RIL) by then director general of the directorate general of hydrocarbons, VK Sibal, in lieu of alleged quid pro quo. The third is on alleged irregularities in the procurement of low-floor buses from Tata Motors by the Tamil Nadu government under the Jawaharlal Nehru National Urban Renewal Mission (JNNURM) scheme.

In another, the CBI will probe alleged market manipulation and hammering of stocks of a company by its rival.

Another pertains to alleged payment of illegal gratification to Income Tax officials and is against unknown public servants and private persons. Another is in connection with alleged working of touts and transaction of kickbacks in the civil aviation sector in which Radia, a former Air India official and unknown officials of the civil aviation ministry were named.

Another will probe alleged professional misconduct of chartered accountant Anil Bansal and other unknown public servants and private persons.
