Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) on Friday submitted names of three of its officials in the Gujarat High Court who could be included in the Special Investigation Team (SIT) that could probe the 2004 encounter of Ishrat Jahan and others.
A division bench of Justice Jayant Patel and Justice Abhilasha Kumari had last week directed CBI to give names of three officials, while reserving the order on petitions demanding CBI probe into the case till August 12.
According to CBI lawyer YN Ravani, names of the three officers has been submitted to the court in a sealed envelope.
"The envelop has come from the CBI headquarters, which has been submitted in the court," he said.
The court had said that there are three options before it like giving the enquiry of encounter case of Ishrat Jahan and three others to CBI, reconstitute the present SIT and include CBI officers in it or to continue with the same SIT.
The court hearing the petitions demanding CBI probe in the case had also directed state government to provide lists of IPS officers in the Special Investigation Team (SIT) formed by Supreme Court in riot cases, list of top three officers of ATS and police officers of state CID, who are probing the Tulsiram Prajapati fake encounter case.
Ishrat was gunned down by Gujarat police along with Javed Ghulam Sheikh alias Pranesh Kumar Pillai, Amjad Ali alias Rajkumar Akbar Ali Rana and Jisan Johar Abdul Gani in Ahmedabad on June 15,2004.
Ishrat's mother Shamima Kausar and Javed's father Gopinath Pillai have demanded CBI probe in the case.
