AFTER LAYING trap for jailed don Mukhtar Ansari’s close aide Rakesh Pandey alias Hanuman, the CBI sleuths are planning to apprehend some more cohorts of the don.

Pandey was being quizzed in a guesthouse on Kanpur Road since Monday.
Sources in the CBI said that Pandey reportedly revealed the names of some cops who were associated with Ansari. These cops belonged to the Mohammadabad police station in Ghazipur district. They played a vital role in the conspiracy to eliminate the BJP MLA Krishnanand Rai on November 29, 2005, Pandey revealed.

Pandey came in contact with Ansari when both of them were lodged in the Lucknow jail 1998. It was Ansari who re-christened Pandey’s name as Hanuman inside the jail.

Pandey landed in CBI net following his regular visit to Ansari in the Ghazipur jail and his conversation with the don on the cellphone.

The cellphone conversation gave ample evidence to the CBI team to arrest Pandey. During the interrogation, Pandey revealed the sequence of events before and after the sensational shootout in Bhanwarkol area of Ghazipur where the BJP MLA was murdered.

Pandey told the CBI sleuths that he had met Munna Bajrangi, Firdaus and other shooters after Rai’s murder. He told the cops that Munna and Firdaus had caught trains for Mumbai and Kolkata from Azamgarh the very next day of the murder. A CBI team has left for Mumbai to trace the whereabouts of Munna.
