Even before the Jammu and Kashmir High court could decide whether to hand over the Shopian rape-cum-murder case to CBI, the investigating agency has conveyed to the state government its reluctance to take up the case.
"CBI would need the cooperation of witnesses, help of general public and help of the relatives of the deceased in the case of Shopian.
"In view of this, it will be difficult for CBI to take over investigations. CBI has conveyed its views to the Jammu and Kashmir Government," CBI spokesman Harsh Bahal told reporters in New Delhi.
The state government had moved the Jammu and Kashmir High Court for transferring the case of rape and murder of two women -- Neelofar (22) and her sister-in-law Aasiya (17) -- on May 29, this year.
However, the High Court reserved its judgement on Wednesday on whether to transfer the case to CBI.
