CBI wants to shift two conspirators to Thane jail

The Central Bureau of Investigation wants to separate two alleged conspirators in the killing of Congress leader Pawanraje Nimbalkar from suspended Nationalist Congress Party Member of Parliament Padmasinh Patil.

The agency on Monday moved an application in the Panvel court requesting to shift Satish Mandade, close friend of Patil and Dombivli corporator Mohan Shukl to Thane jail.

The two are presently lodged in Taloja jail along with Patil.

The agency moved the application while producing Pintoo Singh alias Manoj Yadav, one of the alleged shooters of Nimbalkar and his driver Samad Kazi in the court.

They were shot dead on June 3, 2006 on the Mumbai-Pune Expressway near Kalamboli in Navi Mumbai.

Singh was arrested from Uttar Pradesh on June 14.

Special Public Prosecutor for agency, Ejaz Khan said the court remanded Singh to judicial custody till July 9 and directed to shift him to Alibaug jail.

On the application to shift Mandade and Shukl to Thane jail, Khan said that the court initially ordered to shift the two but later suspended the order till July 3 after the duo’s lawyers objected to agency’s plea.

Mandade and Shukl’s lawyers told the court that they would want to move the Bombay High Court against their clients’ shifting to Thane jail.

A senior agency official said they made the application, as they along with Patil are conspirators in the murder. “They had nexus before the murder and keeping them in one jail would not be good for investigation,” the official said.

The agency also made another application requesting to question Mandade and Shukl in jail.

Since the two are in custody, the agency would now require court’s permission to question them.

Khan said that the court accepted the plea and allowed them to question the two.

The CBI official said that questioning the two has become necessary following raids on the their houses recently.

Last week, the agency conducted raids on Mandade’s Latur residence and Shukl’s Dombivli house.
