AFTER SUCCESSFULLY organising the national athletics meet in January last, Maharishi Vidya Mandir (MVM) Ratanpur will organise the 11th CBSE National Hockey Tournament at Major Dhyanchand Ground of Barkatullah University (BU) from November 15.
Talking to mediapersons here on Saturday, MVM Principal Dr S N Rai said that the school is all set to host the important event of CBSE schools. “We are enthusiastic for the tournament. The objective of hosting the hockey tournament is to attract school-level players towards this game”, said Rai.
About the tournament he said that every day 16 matches would be organised in three grounds of BU. The tournament will be played in two age groups of under-14 and under-19 for boys and girls both. In all, eight teams each of five zones comprising more than 700 players are to participate in the tournament. The organisers have invited 12 referees for officiating the tournament.
From Bhopal, teams of MVM and Jawahar Lal Nehru School, BHEL, will participate. Both teams will contest in the under-19 boys’ category.
Former Olympian Jalaluddin Rizvi said that it is good step towards attracting the school-level players towards hockey. “The need of the hour is to catch the players at school level”, said Jalaluddin.
The organising committee members visited the BU grounds to inspect the ongoing preparations. MVM Director (personnel) former Brig G S Sandhu, senior hockey coach Habib Hasan and MANIT sports officer Rajesh Mishra were present at the press conference.
