In an effort to enhance internal security and regulate traffic movement, the Vadodara Municipal Corporation jointly with the local police have installed Close Circuit Television Cameras (CCTVs) at 29 strategic points of the city.
“It will help in regulating traffic movements and monitor internal security round the clock,” Commissioner of Police, Rakesh Asthana told PTI on Sunday.
CCTVs, which became operational from yesterday, have been installed at crowded, sensitive and hyper sensitive areas of the city, he said.
A grant of Rs 85 lakhs was given from the mayor’s fund for the purpose, Asthana said, adding they plan to install additional 150 CCTVs in other areas of the city soon.
City Mayor Balkrishna Shukla said it is for the first time such network was established in the city and hoped the measure would help in checking the rising number of theft and robbery cases in the city.
