The Jammu and Kashmir police are installing closed-circuit TV (CCTV) sets in all the 22 districts of the state.
Cameras are being positioned in the cities of Jammu and Srinagar and in some areas they have been put in place.
The police said cameras were being installed in the sensitive areas of the cities, in consultation with special superintendents of police and inspector-generals of police there.
A senior police official handling the job said on condition of anonymity:
“These are being installed to keep track of movements of people in sensitive areas. They could be immensely useful if there are terrorist attacks.”
