On Easter Sunday, Christians celebrate the resurrection of Jesus Christ, who according to the scriptures, came back to life three days after his death on the cross. It is typically a well-attended Sunday service for Christian churches. The death of Jesus Christ by crucifixion is commemorated on Good Friday, always the Friday just before Easter.
Why bunny and eggs
In legend, a bunny brings baskets filled with coloured eggs, candy and toys to the homes of children on Easter. This legend is similar to the one of Santa Claus, who is also said to bring gifts to children on the night before Christmas. Traditionally, Easter eggs were dyed or painted chicken eggs. But now, they are substituted by chocolate or plastic eggs filled with confectionery items. These eggs are hidden from children, who are told that they were left for them by the Easter Bunny.
Real hand-painted egg shells filled with chocolates are priced at Rs 50 each here. The bigger ones, filled with toffees and chocolates, are priced between Rs 100 to Rs 250. They also have a variety of sugar Easter eggs priced at Rs 100 each.
