About 50 companies of central security forces will be deployed to deal with Naxal menace in the poll-bound Gadchiroli district in which 17 policemen were killed recently in an ambush by Maoists.

The administration has acquired helicopters and stationed them at Gadchiorli, Aheri and Nagpur to assist the polling machinery to conduct free elections," District Collector and Returning Officer, Atul Patne, told PTI.

About 50 companies of central security forces are being deployed for the October 13 Maharashtra Assembly elections, Manoj Sharma, Additional SP Gadchiroli, told PTI.

He said after the killings of 17 policemen at Laheri in Bhamragarh taluka of Gadchiroli district, additional forces of CRPF were requisitioned.

These para military forces were airlifted from Jharkhand by special IAF transport aircraft to the city and special arrangements were made to transport them to Gadchiroli district from Nagpur, police said.

The district administration is leaving no stone unturned to ensure security for the polling day. The CRPF jawans will be posted at all the sensitive zones.
