A six-member central team is probing into the reports that girls were subjected to change sex through a surgery by few doctors here after a section of media published articles about it.

The probe is being conducted on request of Madhya Pradesh government by the central team.

"The central team has begun its probe into the reports of sex of innocent girls being changed into that of boy through a surgery. The probe will continue for two days," joint director, Health, Sharad Pandit told PTI.

The team includes two senior paediatricians from AIIMS, a nursing expert and a legal expert, he said.

The legal expert, Parikshit Sirohi, said that they are probing the reports with different angles and examining seven hospitals of the city and their staff in this regard.

However, local medical fraternity termed the reports as totally false and baseless and added that it is not possible to convert a normal girl into a normal boy through a surgery in the medical science.

Earlier, a team of National Commission for the Protection of Child Rights (NCPCR) has also conducted a probe in this regard.
