Terrorist outfits like Lashkar-e-Toiba (LeT) and Jaish-e-Mohammed (JeM) could sponsor disruptive activities in Meghalaya, the Centre has warned the state government.
In a recent communique to the state chief secretary, Union Home Secretary V K Duggal also underlined that the terrorists' modus-operandi would be to attack soft targets, places of national importance, places of worship and economic and vital infrastructure besides creating a communal divide in the country.
Official sources today said these 'externally-sponsored' terrorist elements could not operate without 'local logistic support'.
There were cases when some of these terrorists and their conduits merge with local population, stay like ordinary people and provide 'critical back up' to them to carry their activities.
In this background, the general public, landlord and those wanting to sell their second hand vehicles should adequately be sensitised to this issue and pre-verify antecedents of the tenants and buyers of such vehicles before finalising the deal Duggal's communique said.
