If nothing is working fine then all you need is a good support. And what better if this support structure is comfortable and attractive too. No, we are not talking about your love life, but an equally important thing — innovative and exquisite chairs.

“Chairs are an essential part of any room. The chair design has been interpreted in many different ways. Over the years chairs not only provide comfort but also create an artistic feel in a space. One can find the chairs changing form in very many ways by use of different materials,” says Rolly Gupta, interior designer, House of Raro.

Exclusivity calls for designers and stores to experiment with different materials. “Various material like fibre glass, bent plywood, kevlar fibre, concrete, plastic molding (injection molded and rotomolded ), felt fabric, and organic materials like rattan and wicker etc, are used to make chairs,” says product designer Chetan Sorab.

Backing up
“Designers continuously tweak existing designs. The biggest challenge is to marry innovation and comfort by using different fabrics, materials and playing with shape,” says Bindu Vadera, interior designer, Varya.

The value of comfort is priceless, but that doesn’t mean that chairs with exclusive designs are unaffordable. “The prices vary from approx. Rs 1,000 to Rs 5,000 for a standard chair. And if you want to lay hands on the premium custom built chair segment, then it has no upper limit,” says Sorab.

Leather chairs with hand nailed borders look elegant.
Rattan and cane furniture are great for covered balconies and informal sitting areas.
Wooden chairs always look fashionable.
