india Updated: Dec 18, 2006 23:28 IST

HUNDREDS OF residents, whose houses and shops are to be razed to pave the way for Bada Ganpati-Gangwal Bus Stand bond road, on Saturday staged a chakka jam at the Bada Ganpati crossing to protest the move.

The residents raised slogans against the IMC and the government and said they would not allow their properties to be razed. Commercial and residential structures abutting the road to 15 feet on either side are to be knocked down as part of the widening exercise being carried out as a prelude to the Rs 50 crore Bond Road scheme.

In all, 12 roads will be built under the scheme a major part of which Rs 41 crore is being funded by Jawaharlal Nehru National Urban Renewal Mission (JNNURM).
