ARIJIT VOTED his best friend Shamit out of Fame Gurukul last year. Everybody was shocked. How could Arijit do that? Shamit was his best friend!

The shock became a wonderful surprise after one year when the best friends churned out a new musical album together! But, what really happened last year? HT Lucknow Live caught the two at a party!

“Shamit and me were best friends in the ‘academy’. But, that day when I could have saved him — call it peak pressure or amnesia, I voted him out. It just happened. We take it as a bad day but one can see we are together again,” says Arijit.

“After you win your chance of improving is minimum. We have improved a lot since then. These talent hunts give you platform, fame and recognition. But, one has to struggle after that to move ahead,” quips Shamit Tyagi.

The duo, along with their fellow contestant Mona, has signed a musical album with Tips few months back. “Lalitji (after split with Jatin) is giving music for the album. The compositions are almost ready. We know this can be our turning point. That’s why we are putting our soul into it—riyaz 18 hours a day! We are upbeat about the song Chal pade,” says Shamit.

But, they don’t deny Kazi’s win had left them more shocked than surprised. “Yeah! But, he had some special charm in him,” says Arijit Singh.

Talent hunt for them are like assembly elections. “Good candidates lose because even people know that one is better one but don’t vote for them. But we can’t blame anyone. How much can one vote as it involves money. We owe everything to the show as it has given us recognition,” says Shamit.

Girls, he feels, are better supporters because they make people win or lose.
Talking more about the chemistry of their ‘jodi’ Arjit says: “We are complimentary to each other. It just happens we do things together we feel proud when people call us the only male jodi.”

They have big dreams. Music alone can make them reach out to maximum people, they feel. “Shankar Mahadevan is our idol. We dream to win the Grammy Awards some day. We have started singing English songs and even write some songs also. Playback is not the only aim. In shows also we try to be different by being ourselves, use different chords, different harmony and make them male duet songs,” says a thrilled Shamit.
