CHAMBAL RAVINES infamous for being the safest refuge for dacoits would soon be talked about for good reasons. State Department of Tourism after seeing the tremendous tourist potential in Chambal region is now going to develop Chambal as a tourist destination. The project aims to preserve the bio-diversity in Chambal and Yamuna areas of Uttar Pradesh.

According to a senior department official, the project would be implemented in collaboration with the Department of Forest. The project proposal has already been sent to the Central Government for sanction under the Destination Development Scheme. The project costing around Rs 5 crore is expected to get the Central Government’s green signal by the end of this year, added the official.

One of the major attractions of this project is Lion Safari where tourists can see lions in their own natural habitat. Tourists would be taken inside the Safari with special nine and twenty seat tourist vehicles. The department plans to create cottages in the project area where domestic and international tourists can stay and enjoy the nature along with boating in Yamuna waters. The existing rest house would also be repaired. Canteen and other tourist facilities like water, toilets, reception and media centre would be developed in the project area.

The project was needed to preserve the ecological status of Chambal region, which has been turning into ravines due to deforestation.

The area would be developed though proper landscaping and plantation.

Motorboats, paddleboats and inflatable boats would be made available to tourists who can enjoy water sports too. Jetties would be constructed on the riverbanks to provide easy and safe access to rivers, added the official.  To have a birds’ eye-view of the entire area, special watchtowers would be erected in and around the project areas where tourists can have a view of the region with the help of telescopes and binoculars.

The project provision includes solar panels and other infrastructure development works in the project area.
