Karun Chandhok completed his first qualifying session at the Le Mans 24 hours in La Sarthe, France, as his team, JRM Racing, set a time of 3:37.088, 11th fastest in their category (out of 12 classified P1 category teams) and also 11th fastest in the overall classification of 54 cars.

JRM make the step up to Le Mans after their FIA GT1 World Championship title victory last year. The trio of David Brabham, Peter Dumbreck and Chandhok will use the Honda HPD ARX-03a to contest the LMP1 category alongside works and privateer outfits.

Heading the time sheets after the night-qualifying session at the 13.629km long circuit was the factory Audi entry of Andre Lotterer, Benoit Treluyer and Marcel Fassler. The trio, driving the petrol-electric hybrid Audi R18 e-tron Quattro, set a time of 3:25.453.

Chandhok said the majority of the first qualifying session was taken up in fine-tuning the balance of the Honda. He is attempting to become the first Indian to start and complete the historic race after a pre-race injury forced Narain Karthikeyan to sit out of the 2009 edition.
