THE CONGRESS corporators’ group meeting on Sunday witnessed commotion, ahead of twin general council meeting of Bhopal Municipal Corporation (BMC) on December 26.

Two corporators of Zone 5 charged zone president Sadia Khan with allowing violation of norms in collection of education cess along with property tax, triggering noisy scenes for a considerable time at the meeting.

Two corporators Rafiq Qureshi and Wahid Lashkari created ruckus, alleging that the zone president was allowing rules’ violation as regards collection of the education cess. They kept on making allegations despite Mayor Sunil Sood’s efforts to intervene.

The Mayor later said that rules should be taken care of while carrying out any civic work, including collection of taxes. The meeting of the corporators’ group was organised on Sunday to discuss the strategy ahead of the two meetings of the general council on October 26, but most of the proceedings were marked by commotion.

The Congress corporators expressed displeasure over granting of fund by BMC chairman Ramdayal Prajapati from his discretionary fund only to the BJP corporators.

The chairman has discretionary fund of Rs 66 lakh and according to norms, Rs 1 lakh should be allotted to each ward for development work. However, Congress corporators alleged they never get their share of funds from the chairman’s fund.
