A local court today framed charges against Uttar Pradesh minister Yashvant Singh for violating Model Code of Conduct during the 2007 Assembly elections.

Additional Chief Judicial Magistrate Sunit Chandra fixed October 17 as the next date for hearing.

As per the prosecution, district authorities had registered a case against Singh on a directive from the Election Commission for pasting election pamphlets on the walls of government buildings at Jansath town in the district during campaigning for the polls.

Singh is state minister for Urban Development (Independent Charge) in Mayawati-led BSP government in Uttar Pradesh.
