CHARGES WERE framed against eight accused in the sensational Manjunath murder case at the court of Kheri district judge on Friday. As the accused denied the charges, the court ordered to produce evidences in the case on June 5.

The main accused in the case Monu Mittal alias Pawan and seven of his associates are at present lodged in jail.

Talking to Hindustan Times, public prosecutor Chandra Mohan Singh said the accused, including Monu, Devesh Agnihotri, Sanjay Awasthi, Shivkesh Giri, Rajesh Verma and Harish Mishra, appeared before the court on Friday.

Singh said charges could not be framed against the accused earlier as lawyers of the accused had not filed their waqalatnama in the court despite three hearings held in the case.

Monu and his aides had allegedly shot Manjunath dead after the latter had warned to seal Mittal petrol pump at Kheri city. Manjunath had detected irregularity in the measurement of fuel at the pump. The accused were arrested after the victim’s body was found in Sitapur the next day.

Monu’s father Sulakshan Mittal, the owner of the pump, too was arrested but not in the case of murder. He was arrested for irregular of fuel measurement. Mittal, however, was released on bail recently.
