Congress vice-president Rahul Gandhi visited the families of the victims of botch-up sterilisation surgeries at Amsena village in Bilaspur, about 125 km from Raipur, at around noon on Saturday.

He landed in Raipur early today and proceeded straight to Bilaspur by road. He is accompanied with state PCC chief Bhupesh Baghel, leader of opposition T S Singdeo and state party incharge B K Hariprasad.

Rahul later went to two hospitals -- CIMS and Apollo, where he met the relatives of the ailing women admitted in critical state. He inquired from doctors about the conditions of the women who had undergone sterilisations, said the Congress leaders who are moving with him.

At Amsena village he met the families of the victims affected by sterilisation deaths and patiently listened to them. “He assured the families that the Congress party is with them and will fight for their justice”, said the party leaders.

Thirteen women died and around 122 women have been admitted in different hospitals in Bilaspur following the sterilisation tragedy. The conditions of at least 30 are stated to be still serious.

The state government has sacked two doctors, suspended two other health officials and constituted a one-member judicial commission to probe the incidents.
