Foreigners, continental breakfasts and hippy-style clothing are some of the flavours that Paharganj has to offer. However, search a little, and you will discover more unique things. One such item is yak cheese, available at two cafetarias.

Beautiful golden and creamy, the yak cheese is available at Everest Bakery and Cafe in Paharganj. “It comes from Nepal and is mostly bought by foreigners,” says Madan GC, an assistant at the Cafe. You can buy it for R80 (100 gm). The light whitish moldy appearance can be a put-off, but this is how it is supposed to be. The cheese is hard and tastes tangy.

Where:

Everest Cafe, House No. 4591, Dal Mandi, Near Hotel Star Palace, Main Bazar, Paharganj.
