Highlight Story

Chelsea vs. Liverpool is always one of the highlights of any Premier League season. As its always a tightly contested match and the teams win by a whisker the showdown always creates a lot of excitement and remains the talk of the town long after is over. Chelsea's clash with Liverpool is meant to be a significant clash from the point of view of title race.

Premier League season is just 6 weeks old but Pool (Liverpool) and Blues (Chelsea) are aware that both the teams can't afford to lose, as it will be a significant blow to their bid to wrest control of the title from the clutches of Man United. Liverpool has already lost twice this season and is looking far from their best. On the other hand after a brilliant start to the season Chelsea lost their first game to Wigan last week.

The corresponding fixture last season saw Liverpool comfortably beat Chelsea to end their 86 match-winning streak. The match between 2 sides has always been termed as the battle of midfielders. Both of the teams have wonderful players in their midfield but after losing Xabi Alonso to Real Madrid in the summer, Pool midfield has not been up to its best.

The match will see number of star players face each other. Giants like Gerrard, Lampard, Drogba, Torres, Terry and the list go on. This game is important for both the teams, and it's for sure that this match will be a tense and low scoring.

There are lots of doubts about this match due to injuries to various superstars. Peter Cech will be a noticeable absentee for Chelsea as he is suspended due to the red card he picked up in the last match against Wigan. Michael Ballack and John Obi Mikel are also a source of worry for Chelsea as they have picked up the knock in their last match.

On the other hand Liverpool are in a dilemma of their own, Summer signing Alberto Aquilani is out until late October and the other holding midfielder Javier Mascherano is recovering from the knock he picked up 2 weeks ago.

Liverpool comes in this match with poor result in midweek in Champions League group stage match where they lost 2-0(To whom). Chelsea, on the other hand, shrugged of their defeat at the hands of Wigan by winning their Champions League fixture in midweek by 1-0(Against whom). However, strikers in both the teams are in superb form. As goals win matches, both the teams will be looking for their hit men to provide them the lucky break. Drogba and Anelka's team is blossoming by the match and it's good news for Chelsea. They have started to understand each others game better than last season. On the other hand Liverpool has Fernando Torres who is right now scoring goals at will.

Last week's hat trick by Fernando Torres will be enough for Chelsea defenders to mark him properly otherwise even a sliver of space can result in the ball back in the net for Chelsea.

Come Sunday Liverpool will visit Blues that can be termed as a make or break game from the Reds point of view even though its too early in the season. However, losing points now means they will already be 9 points behind Manchester United if Red Devils win the game against Sunderland on Saturday.
