Chennai police is investigating suspected murder of a woman employee of Tata Consultancy Services (TCS) after the highly decomposed body of the missing person was found on Saturday.
The decomposed body was identified as Uma Maheswari (24) missing since February 13 after she left the office located at IT Park at Siruseri, 20 km south east from Chennai.
Passersby alreted the police after a strong stench emanated from a bush in a desolate spot near the office complex.
Police recovered the body and since a missing person complaint was filed by TCS, they summoned her colleagues and father to identify the body.
Kancheepuram SP Vijayakumar said, “post mortem revealed a deep stab wound. We are treating it as suspicious murder,” the police officer said.
Uma Maheswari was working with the TCS in its accounts department for a year now and was staying with friends near the office.
Her colleagues recall that she had not taken the office cab after work hours on February 13. Her mobile phone was switched off since then.
Police also are looking at 'love' angle and are examining her phone call records.
Balasubramniam, her father, came to Chennai after the victim's office informed him. Her father too had not received a call from her for over a week.
With TCS since February 2013, she was well liked by her colleagues and was someone her team leader could depend on. This shocking incident is a sad reminder of the safety and security risks women face today and as an organization we are working with our employees to continuously strengthen our security measures,” a company spokesman said in a press release.
