In a major crackdown, the TN CB-CID arrested five persons for their alleged links with T20 betting racket, a day after Delhi Police nabbed three Rajasthan Royals players for spot-fixing.

Search is on for two more. Police are probing whether they had direct links with any of the T20 players.

Each one reportedly made money ranging from Rs 3 lakh to Rs 2 crore, the police said.

Five teams led by five DSPs held raids at different parts. The raids began at 10pm last night and lasted till 3 am.

The police raided betting syndicates being run at Kilpauk, Choolaimedu, Triplicane, Saidapet, Royapettah, RA Puram, Kaladipet and reportedly seized.

10 laptops, 5 wireless phones, 5 desktops along with Rs 14 lakh cash.

The arrested have been identified as Harish Bajaj from Choolaimedu, Praveen Kumar alias Papu Gautham, a resident of Sowcarpet, Vedachalam from RA Puram, Lucky alias Marbhat (Purshawakam), Deepak Bajaj and Sunil Bajaj (Kilpauk).

Primary investigations reveal that these people had been acting at the command of a Delhi-based gang and were engaged in organising betting from Rs 1000 to several lakhs.

Police sources said they had set up well-equipped betting rooms in places like Saidapet, Aynavaram to run the syndicate.

They would frequently meet at their Vedachalam's office and coffee shops at Mount road.

Police sources also said that they not only ran bets for T20 but also for various international cricket matches.
