india Updated: Nov 16, 2006 13:30 IST

Chhattisgarh government has given exemption to five departments from the ambit of Right to Information Act, including the recently set up special cell for anti-Naxal operations.

There are provisions under the RTI Act in this regard and the state government had exempted five departments from the ambit of the Central Act for their smooth functioning, official sources said on Thursday.

Under that exemption, the Chhattisgarh Armed Force Special Branch of Police Headquarters and the units directly working under it in the field, have been put outside the ambit of the Act.

Similarly, District Intelligence Bureau (DIB), operating under the office of the District Superintendent of Police at the district level and the Special Intelligence Bureau, specially created for the anti-Naxal operation have also been exempted.

In addition to these, the Economic Offences Wing (EOW) working directly under the CM, has been kept outside the purview of of the Act, sources said.

EOW functions under the General Administration Department and reports directly to the CM, although police personnel are deputated to that department.
