Chhattisgarh chief minister Raman Singh on Wednesday said his government will file a 'civil suit' in the Supreme Court against the upcoming Polavaram irrigation project in neighbouring Andhra Pradesh.
Replying to a question asked by BJP MLA Devjibhai Patel in the state Legislative Assembly, Singh said the draft of the suit is being prepared.
According to the Chhattisgarh government, the project will submerge 7,500 hectares of forest land in the state and will affect population of 18 villages. The project will affect the areas rich in minerals.
Singh said that he has written a letter to the Prime Minister and the union environment minister in this regard.
