Chief of armed wing of banned Manipur militant group held

The chief of armed wing of banned Manipuri militant group Kanglei Yawol Kana Lup (KYKL) has been arrested by security forces.

The chief of armed wing of banned Manipuri militant group Kanglei Yawol Kana Lup (KYKL) has been arrested by security forces.

Ningthoujam Tomba alias Koireng alias Tomba was arrested in a joint operation by the Manipur and West Bengal police in Siliguri, police said.

Home Ministry officials said that during the investigation, they found a bank account in his name with a deposit of Rs 28 lakh besides a house in Kolkata.

A woman, Saraswati Ray, who was staying with the 57-year-old militant was also arrested. After interrogating them, two other women from Kurseong were arrested, Darjeeling Superintendent of Police D P Singh said.

A satellite phone and some documents were also seized from him, they said, adding he would be brought to Manipur for trial, police said.

KYKL is a major insurgent organisation operating in Manipur for the past few decades and has been waging an armed struggle for an 'independent Manipur'.

Home Ministry officials said the militant had a lavish lifestyle and it was important for the people to see through
the game-plan of such groups.
