BARRING TRANSPORT, Revenue and Water Resources departments, Chief Secretary Rakesh Sahni today expressed satisfaction over the performance of revenue receipts of major revenue-earning departments. He directed senior officers not only to achieve their tax collection targets but also to maintain a growth of about 15 per cent in tax collection.
Reviewing revenue receipts of various departments in a meeting at Mantralaya, Sahni appreciated the efforts being made by majority of departments for surpassing the targets assigned to them.
He expressed satisfaction over the fact that majority of departments maintained a healthy growth in tax collection. However, he was not happy with the progress of tax collection by Transport and Water Resources departments.
According to sources the Chief Secretary dismissed the plea given by officials of Transport Department that their collection was not up to the mark because number of vehicles registered in the State went down. To this, the Chief Secretary is learnt to have said, “Income of Transport Department not depends solely on vehicle registration”.
He also directed the officials of Water Resources and Revenue departments to concentrate on collection of taxes. Sahni also directed senior officials to solve the inter-departmental matters related with taxes. Senior officials of majority of tax earning departments were present on the occasion.
