Raising the pitch against China for its repeated incursions, Home Minister Rajnath Singh on Thursday said China had “illegally occupied Aksai Chin in Ladakh" and incursions by Chinese troops don't augur well for maintaining cordial ties."

India wants to maintain good relations with its neighbours but the gesture should be reciprocated by its neighbours, Singh said.

The home minister – speaking at an election rally in Leh – also blamed the Congress for its policies that cost the country a great deal of land taken over by China as well as Pakistan.

“Congress lost Tibet to China which acted as the ‘buffer state’ between both the countries & Pakistan handed over Aksai Chin area to China,” Singh later tweeted.
