In the wake of protests by Tibetans, Chinese Ambassador Zhang Yan on Tuesday met Delhi Police Commissioner YS Dadwal in New Delhi and discussed the security arrangements made for the April 17 Olympic torch relay.
Yan drove to the Police Headquarters on Tuesday afternoon and discussed with Dadwal the arrangements made by the police with respect to the arrangements made for the event, sources said.
The meeting lasted for about 30 minutes and the Commissioner is understood to have briefed the Chinese envoy about the arrangements made by security establishment for the event, they said.
Dadwal is reported to have ensured the top diplomat that adequate security will be provided at the Chinese embassy in Chanakyapuri to thwart any attempts by Tibetans to storm it.
A large number of Tibetans are camping in Delhi, ahead of the Olympic torch relay, and are protesting against the "atrocities" committed by Chinese forces in their homeland.
