Chinese made grenades recovered in Meghalaya

Meghalaya Police has seized a Chinese made hand grenade and incriminating documents in East Garo Hills district.

Meghalaya Police has seized a Chinese made hand grenade and incriminating documents from the residence of the leader of the newly formed Militant ourfit Liberation Of Elite Action Force(LAEF) in Meghalaya's East Garo Hills district.

Police said they raided the house of Peter T Marak at Songsak in East Garo Hills district following a tip-off. But he managed to escape before the police arrived.

However, the police, while searching the house of the militant leader, who is reported to have 'close links' with the Naga insurgent group- NSCN (I-M), recovered a Chinese hand grenade and some incriminating documents.

Police said the LAEF was formed mainly to extort money from businessmen and coal exporters to Bangladesh from Ghausapara in Garo Hills.

Meanwhile, a manhunt has been launched to nab Marak and other members of the outfit.
