Telugu megastar Chiranjeevi was again in news after his fans attacked actor couple Rajsekhar and Jeevitha and their two daughters for remarks allegedly made by Rajasekhar at Bhimavaram on Sunday. He met Rajsekhar’s family and apologised for the “unfortunate” behaviour of his fans.
The attackers — who came in four cars — chased the vehicle carrying Rajsekhar and his family, forcing his car to stop at the Punjagutta crossroads. There, protestors shouted slogans against the doctor-turned-actor for his comments against their “megastar”. They demanded an apology and attacked the car with stones and iron rods, damaging it badly and injuring Rajasekhar and his elder daughter Sivani. On a complaint filed by Rajasekhar’s wife Jeevitha, the police registered a case.
Earlier, while replying to media questions at Bhimavaram on Sunday, Rajasekhar said he would not be joining Chiranjeevi’s proposed party, as “Chiru has no political experience.”
On hearing about the incident, Chiranjeevi called on Rajasekhar’s family. He said that in a democracy, everyone enjoyed the right to freedom of expression. “It is wrong to resort to physical attacks. The reaction from my fans is unnecessary and unfortunate. I strongly condemn the incident. I ask my fans and followers to exercise restraint and not to resort to violence or physical attacks,” he said.
Satisfied with Chiranjeevi’s statement, Rajasekhar said that “by condemning the incident and calling on me, he has done justice to us.”
