Chocochips, Pista, Mango or Black Current; there may be several fancy flavours available around ice cream parlours, but India still prefers plain old Vanilla. This was revealed in a survey conducted by Baskin-Robins. The simplest flavour ranked number one in terms of ‘Most Favoured Flavours’ across India. Twenty-four per cent of the voters vouched for it. Butterscotch and chocolate came in at rank two and three, with 21 and 20 per cent votes, respectively. Strawberry stood low at number four with 19 per cent votes.
However, in a deviation from the India trend, Mumbaikars voted for chocolate as their most loved and consumed flavour. Twenty-seven per cent of the voters said they would opt for the flavour during an evening out. Strawberry was number two with 23 per cent votes. Kesar Pista, Chocochips, Black Current were the other preferred flavours.
Ashwin Uppal, GM marketing, Baskin-Robbins India, says, "The Indian market offers a lot of potential for ice cream consumption and has been growing steadily year after year. Having conducted such a detailed consumer study, we will now be in a better position to know what our consumers want."
The survey also revealed other interesting details, like how toppings don’t matter to ice cream lovers. The research found that 90 per cent of the times, ice cream is consumed without any thing extra like nuts, sauces or fruits. Even in Mumbai, 98 per cent of the respondents preferred ice cream without toppings. One per cent liked fruits and the remaining liked ice cream with toppings like nuts and chocolate chips.
