Self-styled godman Nityananda Swami, facing criminal cases including rape and currently on bail, was summoned Wednesday by CID for certain clarifications.
Nityananda, accompanied by his advocate came to the CID headquarters and answered queries from investigating officials, sources in the CID said.
He spent about an hour with the CID in offering clarifications sought by them, the sources said, adding, he returned to his Dhyanapeetam Ashram, situated near Bidadi.
"Certain fresh evidence have surfaced against Nityananda and the CID wanted to seek clarifications from him," a sources said, but declined to divulge details of evidence gathered.
Nityananda landed in a controversy in March after local TV channels aired purported video footage showing him in a compromising position with a Tamil actress. He was arrested from Solan in Himachal Pradesh on April 21.
He was enlarged on bail by the High Court here on June 11. After his release, he performed a 'pancha tapasya' to "purify himself and for world peace".
