CONFEDERATION OF Indian Industries (CII), Bhopal, has prepared a status report on generation of air cargo at Ahilyabai Holkar airport. In its report sent to district administration and Airports Authority of India, CII has enlisted 10 corporate houses that would generate a total of 1,135 tonne cargo per month.

The Confederation has recommended using the present airliners for carrying the cargo. It was also suggested that the companies having enough export could bring in their own chartered aircraft to Indore airport.

The CII has demanded custom and immigration clearance facilities along with strongroom and spacious    storage area for cargo. Another demand of CI is extension of airstrip for landing of bigger aircraft.

When contacted, Indore airport director James Natal said that AAI Board of Directors had granted approval to invite expression of interest for the bidders to run the facility.

He said that the airport was ready with equipment and infrastructure facilities to launch the services and was waiting for regional office at Mumbai to float the tenders.

According to Natal, AAI Chairman Dr Ramlingam is expected to visit here for ISO 9001 function. The airport has received ISO certification and a function will be held to mark the occasion.
