Industry chamber CII has pipped rival FICCI for organising next year's Pravasi Bhartiya Divas - the annual conclave of Non-Resident Indians (NRI) and People of Indian Origin (PIO).
Confirming the development, a top CII official who did not wish to be named said the chamber had received approval from Ministry of Overseas Indian Affairs to organise the event, which had been hosted by FICCI for the last four years.
Both CII and FICCI had made presentations to the ministry to organise the event, which has been used as a platform to urge NRIs and PIOs to invest in India.
"The event will be held from January 7-9 in Delhi next year and we have already started working on it," the CII official said, but added that a final memorandum of understanding was yet to be signed as CII director general was traveling.
Since its inception in 2003, the event has been attracting participation of NRIs and PIOs across the globe.
This year's event was held in Hyderabad, while Delhi hosted the inaugural conclave in 2003.
