City of Joy flips for Prince, Budhia

india Updated: Aug 30, 2006 11:58 IST

Five-year-old Prince who was rescued from a 60-feet deep pit in Kurukshetra, Haryana, by the Army would be one of the star attractions this Durga Puja in Kolkata.

He will share the limelight with prodigious four-year-old long distance runner Budhia Singh of Orissa. Durga Puja in Kolkata is noted for inviting star guests to inaugurate the huge pandals (marquees) decorated with wacky themes and innovative lighting.

This time round, a club in Behala in south Kolkata, has chosen not to rope in any Bollywood stars. Instead, child celebrities like Prince and Budhia would do the honours.

Behala Youngmen's Association, the organisers who chose the child celebrity theme, said both the kids have confirmed their presence. "They have accepted our invitation," said club president P K Misra, whose club this year chose the theme 'Durga Puja: A Child's Imagination.'

The club wants to invite local celebrities like Sourav Ganguly too but they consider the participation of the celebrity child duo as a major coup since the pujas in the city try to outdo each other in gimmick and innovative thinking.

While Prince shot to limelight because of the rescue operation after he fell inside a 60-feet deep pit and was brought out alive after his over 50-hour stay inside, Budhia is said to be the world's youngest marathon runner.
